WELCOME TO YUKON OK City with Rich Czech Heritage
If you are heading West on I-40 or on historic Rt 66 you might want to stop and check out this friendly town. Yukon offers best of both worlds: great city access and quality of life. Yukon is one of the fastest growing communities in Oklahoma.
These reasons make Yukon popular with professionals, families, and those with a discerning eye for real estate. With a population of over 27,500 residents, Yukon OK is still considered a small suburb city on the west side of the OKC Metroplex in Canadian County.
This friendly city is one of the ‘bedroom communities’ in OKC Metro. It’ss well known for its robust Bohemian & Czech heritage. Lots of traditional events take place throughout the year to celebrate its heritage and western tradition:
Chisholm Trail Festival
Yukon is home to such celebrities as singer Garth Brooks and actor Dale Robertson. And we shouldn’t forget our famous Grady the Cow, of course!
YUKON was found by A.N. Spencer, a cattleman from Texas, in 1891 and named after Yukon River in Alaska.
Historically Yukon served as an urban center for local farmers and an area of a large milling operation. Yukon’s Best Flour sign is still widely recognized. It was restored in 2013 and it brightly shines at night on the top of the iconic flour mill on historical Rt 66.
YUKON OK has been experiencing a spectacular growth for over a decade. Still with such dynamic growth the community retained a small town atmosphere. It prides itself to be friendly and family oriented.
Yukon, OK covers about 25 square miles and its population is about 27,500.
The area continues to grow in both the number of residents as well as retail spaces and a vigorous dining scene. Just recently Yukon welcomed Crest Foods – Oklahoma owned and operated since 1946.
Being a long time resident of Yukon OK, I witnessed a lot of great changes and a tremendous growth of this town. Sometimes it seems like the progress happens too fast, however, I might be a little nostalgic.
