Chisholm Trail Festival YUKON OK
On Saturday morning I took off and headed to Chisholm Trail Festival in Yukon OK. It was hot already. At 10AM the temperature was already in the 90′s. Kirkpatrick Family Farm in Yukon, Oklahoma is the site for the annual Chisholm Trail Festival. It is always held on first Saturday in June.
The property is located on the corner of Vandament and Garth Brooks Blvd.
It is a beautiful site with lots of trees which offer much needed relief from the relentless scorching sun.
I had an interesting conversations with re-enactors of 77th Penn Infantry who came to visit us from Pennsylvania. I listened to many interesting stories about soldier’s life in that era. Bless their hearts, all of them had to wear military wool uniforms!
Watching biscuits baking in the Dutch oven over the fire was a treat not only to watch the process of how it they are made but also experience their incredible aroma.
Oklahoma Territory teacher greeted me in the little school house. There I saw some old arithmetic and English books. And listen to a few stories from the past.
I saw a blacksmith working on the red-hot iron horseshoe and a saddle maker shaping a frame of next great horse saddle. Tasty food , live music, games, shopping and making new friends!
It is a fabulous event for a whole family. There is something interesting to see, discover, learn and do for everyone.
I had a privilege to talk to Mr. JW Parker, our renowned Chisholm Trail historian and authority. And learn a few additional facts about the Chisholm Trail. He and his wife Mary Jo had a beautiful exhibit inside of one of the prairie houses. It showed Chisholm Trail’s history, pictures and a few historical artifacts.
Chisholm Trail Festival YUKON OK is an incredible experience. Great day for learning, relaxing, visiting with ‘old’ friends and making new ones…I even tried shooting – John Wayne style!
