Oklahoma has great leaders. One of them is Brian Maughan – Oklahoma County Commissioner.
On January 2nd I had a privilege to attend Brian’s swearing in ceremony at The Oklahoma State Capitol. All guests gathered in State House Chambers at noon. The Master of Ceremonies Kevin Ogle from Channel 4.
This is Brian’s second term to be in commissioner’s seat. And he is one of the ‘good guys’ who is committed to working with the community to provide ethical and responsible government. He is dedicated, caring and has a common sense approach.
I met Brian Maughan a couple years ago when he was talking about his successful SHINE program at the High Noon Club.
SHINE – Start Helping Impacted Neighborhoods Everywhere
The program organizes low-level non-violent offenders in community service work crews to remove graffiti and trash and beautify and improve community. This effort saved taxpayers more than $1.5 million and won a widespread acclaim nationally. It is also the model for a new statewide law passed in 2012 to allow other counties to duplicate the SHINE program.
“SHINE is more than just a beautification project“ – Brian says, ” it is an effort to address problems with gangs, drug use and transients near parks and schools and in neighborhoods.
Congratulations Brian on your second term! Oklahomans are thankful for your leadership. We need more leaders of this caliber!
